Welcome!

Introducing tina walker studio

Hello and Welcome to my new home for all things creative, fun, and inspiring.

This new site has been on my ‘project list’ for over 2 years and I really didn’t think it would actually happen.  As they say, ‘life happens’ and one thing or another took priority.

At the beginning of 2023 I made this a priority and that this WOULD BE the year to make this happen.  I reached out to my art community for web design support which kicked off the process.  Thank you to Alyssa McGrew for getting me started and to my son, (who is an amazing graphic designer btw, who focuses on UX), who really helped me put the finishing touches on the site.  Thank you Alecx.♥

A lot of thought, research, and sweat & tears went into the new logo design.  I wanted something that represented my love for all things vintage + my overall quirkiness and my ‘against the grain’ attitude.  What do you think about it?

My website will be a work in progress.  This is just phase ONE, but I wanted a place you can visit to see my latest news, product designs, subscribe to a (new to me) newsletter, and whatever mischief I can get myself into.

I have aspirations to start writing NEWS (blog) posts again, but no guarantees.  LOL.  Writing posts is a REAL commitment, and I will admit, writing is NOT my strength.  I would much rather be getting my hands full of paint and cutting up paper.  My NEWS post may become my newsletter content, so no worries if you miss one or the other.

Phase TWO will be the addition of a place for self-hosting of online workshops and classes.  One of my personal art goals is to create and publish more online learning content for those who can’t travel to my in-person workshops.  Workshops may include book making, art journal inspiration, and whatever my mixed media brain can come up with. We are in the beginning stages of developing the sites for that content so stay tuned for future announcements and updates.

Want to know about me and my art journey?  You can visit the ABOUT tab listed above.  I would love to learn more about YOU!  Please share in the comments below.

Thank you again for taking the time to stop by, visit, and say HELLO to my new place!

beautiful minds inspire others StencilGirl® collaboration

Hello and Happy Monday!  It has been F.O.R.E.V.E.R. since I’ve written a blog post, and here I am.

I hope 2021 is treating you well and you are safe, healthy, and happy!

Today, is my quarterly StencilGirl® Columnist Post and I am sharing a bit more behind my creative process with y’all.

The challenge this month was to create a project, inspired by a favorite artist, either past or present.

I have always admired Pablo Picasso, so it was an easy decision for me.  Pablo had many art chapters, which are each beautiful and unique on their own, but the chapter I covet the most is his Cubism  and Neoclassicism and Surrealism periods.

The Cubism period lasted between 1909-1912 and the following snippet is from his website:

Analytical Cubism is one of the two major branches of the artistic movement of Cubism and was developed between 1908 and 1912. In contrast to Synthetic cubism, Analytic cubists “analyzed” natural forms and reduced the forms into basic geometric parts on the two-dimensional picture plane. Color was almost non-existent except for the use of a monochromatic scheme that often included grey, blue and ochre. Instead of an emphasis on color, Analytic cubists focused on forms like the cylinder, sphere and the cone to represent the natural world. During this movement, the works produced by Picasso and Braque shared stylistic similarities.

The Newclassicism and Surrealism periods lasted between 1918-1945.

Some of my favorite pieces from these periods are:

There is something so intriguing and engaging about these periods that draws me closer to the painting to look at the lines, shapes, and colors and wonder what he was trying to emote and communicate.

The uncomfortable faces and inaccurate features are the most perfect part of his paintings.

Inspired by these wonderful paintings I set off to create my own Picasso art journal page.

To create the collage material needed to the faces, I pulled out stencils, alcohol inks and my favorite fashion magazines.

I selected several larger faces for this technique.  The process is simple – lay the stencil down and drip alcohol ink across the stencils in several colors.  You don’t need to cover the entire surface, but just enough to allow the ink to bleed together.

Leave the stencil in place until the alcohol ink is completely dry.  This is the key to success.

Once the alcohol ink is dry, remove the stencil and you have instant collage material.  I love the texture created by the stencil and alcohol.

The rest is really up to you.  I cut sections of each face and assembled them on my page to create a Pablo like painting.  I am so pleased with how my art journal page turned out  I think it is very Picasso!

Some of the stencils I used were:

StencilGirl® and seth apter WOW! embossing powder hop!

Hello and Welcome to the StencilGirl® and Seth Apter WOW! Embossing Powder Hop!

One of the things that makes me truly happy when creating, is combining amazing products together to create unexpected and wonderful results.  For most, you wouldn’t immediately think of embossing powder and stencils to be the perfect pair, but they can be.  When you get this excited over the finished project, why waste time with talking.  Let’s check out what I created.  🙂

The amount of depth, texture, and overall awesomeness you can get from 2 simple products is amazing.  The technique isn’t complicated at all.

Add embossing ink or use Seth’s embossing brush to add embossing medium through a stencil.  Remember, that less is more and not much is needed for the embossing powder to stick.

Heat and done!

For my piece, I added a spray over the embossed sections which added even more depth of color. The embossed areas act a resist which allows you to create easily.  You can also emboss an entire piece, like I did for the wings.

Although the rest of my piece took time to pull together, I create an amazing look box in no time.  Imagine stenciling + embossing on a large cigar box.  I be-still my heart! ♥♥♥

New StencilGirl® Release – Inspired by my Travels

Hello!  and WELCOME to a new month and a new StencilGirl® stencil release!

This release, much like my last release(s) are inspired by world travels to Iceland, Scotland, and within the U.S.  I enjoy creating stencils based on my travels and architectural shapes always catch my eye.

Please scroll to the bottom so you don’t miss out on the most important stencil of all in this release!  It is something I believe strongly in, and I hope you do too.

‘Through the Gates’ comes from my trip to the Eastern State Penitentiary, located in Philadelphia, PA.  The stencil is inspired by a picture I took of the medical wing of the old Penitentiary.  It was operational from 1829 to 1971 and is reported to be haunted.  If you are a ghost hunter, this is the place to visit.

‘Icelandic Church’ is from my 2017 trip to Iceland.  Iceland’s beauty comes in all shapes and forms and the country is full of small white, red-roofed churches.  They often sit solitary on the nills or near the sea, as if they were sentinels for Mother Nature.

‘Gaelic Angel’  is inspired by my most recent travels, last fall to Scotland.  This statue is located in St. Giles Cathedral, in old town Edinburgh.  Churches have always been a favorite destination during my trips.

My final travel inspired stencil also comes from my recent to Scotland.  Scotland is full of early century Abbey and I think we visited all of them last fall.  LOL.  This stencil is inspired by Jedburgh Abbey, a ruined Augustinian Abbey founded in the 12 Century.  It is stunning to see in person and I would highly recommend adding it to your bucket list of places to see in Scotland.

The final stencil in this release is inspired by something very important something I believe strongly in.  No additional words are needed, other than those listed on the stencil itself.

Here’s a small sampling of some of the art journal spreads I’ve made with my new release.  I can’t wait to see how they inspire you to create.  ♥♥♥

TaDa for Now!  ♥♥♥
